It was another typical cold winter's night when Russia was fast asleep, warm in his bed. He was exhausted after getting all of the presents ready for Russian Christmas. His peaceful slumber was disturbed when a little pair of feet were running in the hall and towards his door. There was a momentary pause, followed by a little jump in an attempt to open the large door. The first attempt was futile, but the second was successful. Her little breath was racing faster than it should for a little girl's breath as she ran into the room. Not waiting for a response, she jumped into her father's bed and crawled over to him, burying herself in her father's warm chest. His instinctive paternal protectiveness made his arm secure around the whimpering child. He rubbed soothing circles into her back to try and ease her fright.
"Sunflower, what is wrong, Da?" He asked. She only clutched onto his shirt for dear life. Russia felt his heart shatter as his three year old daughter cry her heart out. He felt like he had an obligation, no, a want to see her happy and safe at all times. Little _______ was the only person he felt deserved more happiness than any other creature, including themselves.
"_______, please tell Daddy what is wrong." He asked. She hastily picked her head up and looked into the violet eyes of her father. Her vision was blurred from the tears that dared to leave her (e/c) eyes.
"I had........ -sniff- a nightmare Daddy!" She cried. He hugged her even tighter, hoping that it would calm her down. "I dreamed that they were going to take me away from you!" She cried again, probably thinking that it would come true now that it was spoken.
"_______, listen to me." His voice was soft and caring, a tone that no other person would ever hear from him. "Everybody knows better than to take you from me, Da? And if they do, I will not let them win." She started to feel better, but still had her doubts.
"But who will protect me when I'm alone at night, Daddy?" She asked.
"Hold on one moment, Da?" He said. He left the bed. ______ went to where her father was previously laying, getting comfort from the warmth he emitted from before. She felt more secure there. After about a minute, Russia returned with a hand behind his back. _______ cocked her head to the side, wondering what he was going to do. He walked over and went back into the bed.
"I know it's not Christmas yet, but this will help." He pulled out a present with green wrapping paper and a black bow on top. She took the box, which made her look diminutive in comparison, and started unwrapping. Russia felt a little warm inside when he looked at his little girl's curious eyes. She finally reached the box, which she had trouble opening. He chuckled to himself as he opened it for her. She reached into it and pulled out a teddy bear with the colors with caramel, white, and occasional brown. He had a silky light brown bow, and small, adorable black eyes. _______'s mouth formed a smile of innocence, joy, and the spirit of getting one of the first Christmas gifts you remember getting.
"_______, teddy bears were always the best guardians from monsters and bad dreams. He'll protect you. Like I always will. I love you." He kissed her on the forehead, in between the space of her (h/c) bangs. She still cluthced the teddy bear, her new best friend.
"I love you forever and ever, Daddy." She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on the nose.
"Daddy, can me and Butterscotch sleep in here tonight?" She asked, in the "please" tone that almost every child could pull off, but only she could do it special enough to make Russia's heart melt.
"Da, sunflower." And with that answer, she snuggled into his chest, wrapping some of his scarf around her small figure. Normally, those who even dared to touch his scarf would face the wrath of him and his pipe, but his daughter was different. Special. As he looked out at the window that held an ice dance while the snow fell from the Heavens, he let out a content sigh while he felt his little girl's breathing regulate. He tiredly wrapped his arm around her. After kissing her on the top of her head, he fell back to another peaceful sleep.
______ had another dream. In this one, it was snowing, like it really was outside, and she was asleep in her own bed, with it against the wall, and her night stand right next to her. On the end of her bed, monsters and demons were about to strike. But, Butterscotch was standing on the bed, with a small wooden sword and shield, ready to take on the nightmares. He stood on her hip, as she was sleeping on her side. He turned to her peaceful face, and then back again at his enemies. The bravery of Butterscotch made the nightmares go away, never to bother _______ so long as he was with her.
_______ smiled in her sleep, enjoying the good dream before Christmas. Her teddy bear made her feel safe. Mostly because the strongest and bravest Daddy in the world gave it to her.
